Obesity Surgery

When is Obesity Surgery Indicated?
Bariatric surgery may be recommended for patients who meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Body Mass Index (BMI) ≥ 40
- BMI ≥ 35 with obesity-related comorbidities (e.g. type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea)
- Documented failure of conservative treatment (diet, exercise, medication)
- Physical or psychological impairment due to severe overweight
Surgical Methods Offered
We offer all internationally established and scientifically validated procedures, including:
- Gastric Balloon – A temporary, non-surgical option in which a soft, expandable balloon is inserted endoscopically into the stomach. It promotes early satiety and helps initiate weight loss, typically over 6 to 12 months. Ideal for patients with moderate obesity or as preparation for surgery.
- Sleeve Gastrectomy – Permanent removal of approximately 80% of the stomach, reducing hunger and calorie intake.
- Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass – Creates a small stomach pouch and reroutes part of the small intestine, reducing both food intake and nutrient absorption.
- Mini-Gastric Bypass / One-Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB) – A simplified, highly effective variation of the traditional bypass, with strong metabolic benefits.
- Biliopancreatic Diversion (BPD) – A more intensive procedure that combines significant stomach reduction with bypassing a large portion of the small intestine, leading to profound metabolic and weight loss effects. Rarely performed today due to complexity and nutritional risks, but still an option for selected patients.
- Duodenal Switch (DS) – A variation of BPD that includes a sleeve gastrectomy combined with a duodenal-intestinal bypass. It offers powerful results for patients with severe obesity or metabolic disease, requiring close lifelong follow-up.

Each case is carefully evaluated to determine the most suitable technique for the patient’s health profile and long-term success.
